Change

All elements of our programs are individualized and one-to-one. This is essential in Change Counseling as individuals’ needs vary widely. Some people simply need help organizing their time and priorities while others need a professional’s help sorting through the emotional aspects of eating.

Sustainable weight loss is a complex project that can tax a person’s patience while new habits and new muscle are being built. Change Counseling helps clients focus on their long-term objectives and learn how to stay committed at times they might traditionally give up.

Our licensed counselors guide clients through a lifestyle-change curriculum that helps them investigate their decision- making processes as well as the different functions food plays in their lives. Whether the focus is on improved nutrition, increased exercise or both, from the start of the program we make plans for maintaining change after the program ends.

We encourage clients to:

  1. learn to motivate themselves in more effective ways
  2. experiment with making different choices
  3. turn setbacks into lessons about how to change
  4. create new strategies for the variety of contexts within their lives, making it easier to make healthier choices

"The counseling sessions were very helpful. I was able to explore my personal progress in other areas, not just weight. Managing my weight stirs up a lot of emotional ups and downs for me and the counseling gave me a grounded perspective. I feel like I’m at the beginning of a great adventure."

"At first I was skeptical about needing the counseling but my biggest surprise in all this was how useful it was. When I was successful at something it helped to talk about what I did and understand how to keep it going. When I wasn’t so successful, I could still move forward by learning about that, too. Allowing myself to be less strict and critical of myself I’ve created routine ways of eating and being active that I can sustain."
